A few tips to land your job in campsite grounds maintenance

If you're looking for a job in grounds maintenance, you're in the right place! The role of grounds maintenance worker at a campsite is essential to give holidaymakers a pleasant, clean and green environment throughout their stay. Whether you're interested in mowing, pruning, watering or landscaping, there are plenty of grounds maintenance jobs waiting for you at campsites.

Technical Skills and Use of Equipment

To become a grounds maintenance worker at a campsite, it's essential to know how to use and maintain gardening equipment (mowers, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, robotic mowers, irrigation systems). Training or experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a Level 2 qualification in horticulture/landscaping is an advantage. Keep building your knowledge of plants, pruning techniques and good maintenance practice to keep the grounds healthy and attractive throughout the season.

Day-to-Day Maintenance and Landscaping

Grounds maintenance is a core part of how a campsite runs smoothly. Mow lawns, trim hedges and shrubs, weed flower beds, and make sure plants are watered regularly, particularly during the summer season. Plan ahead for landscaping work (planting, mulching, floral displays) to enhance pitches, the area around the pool and communal spaces, giving holidaymakers a well-kept, welcoming environment.

Organisation and Attention to Detail

As a grounds maintenance worker, you need to be ready to organise your work based on priorities and the weather. Practise planning your tasks (mowing, pruning, watering) efficiently to cover the whole site while working around areas used by holidaymakers. Pay close attention to detail so you can quickly spot areas that need attention and help maintain a spotless impression of the site.

Communication and Teamwork

Communication is key to being an effective grounds maintenance worker at a campsite. Liaise regularly with the maintenance team and management to flag equipment needs, areas needing extra attention, or any issues with the grounds (faulty automatic watering, a dangerous tree, etc.). Coordinate your work with other departments to carry out tasks at the best times and minimise disruption for holidaymakers.
