Our job offers for NPLQ lifeguards in a campsite

A few tips on how to get a job at a campsite.

The role of a qualified lifeguard at a campsite is hugely important for keeping holidaymakers safe during water-based activities. As a campsite lifeguard, you'll be responsible for preventing accidents, keeping a close watch over swimming areas and responding quickly in an emergency. Here are our tips for becoming a confident, competent campsite lifeguard.

Getting Qualified and Ongoing Training

To become a lifeguard at a campsite, you'll need a recognised lifeguard qualification, such as the RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or, for open-water sites, the RLSS Open Water Lifeguard award. These qualifications give you the skills you need in water rescue, surveillance and first aid. Make sure you enrol with an approved training provider and complete the required theory and practical sessions to gain your certification. You'll also need to keep your qualification up to date with regular refresher training (typically every two years) to stay current with best practice in water safety.

Preventing Water-Related Risks

Preventing water-related risks is a crucial part of a lifeguard's role. Make sure holidaymakers are aware of safety rules and which areas are supervised. Keep a close eye on swimmers and anticipate risky situations, such as strong currents or careless behaviour. Be available to answer guests' questions and offer advice on how to enjoy the water safely.

Responding to Emergencies

As a qualified lifeguard, you need to be ready to respond quickly in an emergency. Practise rescue and first aid procedures regularly so you're prepared to step in whenever needed. Make sure rescue equipment, such as lifebuoys and ropes, is in good working order and easily accessible. Stay calm and confident during emergency situations to reassure holidaymakers and act effectively.

Communication and Awareness

Communication is essential to being an effective lifeguard at a campsite. Keep in regular contact with the campsite team to share information on weather conditions, changes to swimming areas, or anything else relevant to guest safety. Run water safety awareness sessions for holidaymakers to inform them of potential risks and how to stay safe.
