A few tips to land your job as a campsite warden / night security

If you're looking for a job in security, you're in the right place! The role of campsite warden or night security officer is hugely important for keeping holidaymakers safe and maintaining peace and quiet on site overnight. Whether you're interested in access control, security patrols or dealing with incidents during the night, there are plenty of warden/night security jobs waiting for you at campsites.

Vigilance and Knowledge of the Site

To become a campsite warden or night security officer, it's essential to know the site and how it operates inside out (access points, washrooms, pool, communal areas, sensitive areas). Experience in security or a recognised security qualification (such as an SIA licence for door supervision or security guarding) is an advantage, particularly for managing fire alarms and following safety procedures. Stay regularly up to date with the campsite's procedures and instructions so you can act effectively in any situation.

Security Patrols and Prevention

Security patrols are a core part of a night warden's role. Carry out regular patrols across the whole site to check that access points are secured, equipment is working properly, and there are no signs of intrusion or risky behaviour. Make sure quiet hours and closing times (bar, pool, washrooms) are respected, and stay alert for anything unusual that could pose a danger to holidaymakers or to the site.

Responding to Emergencies

As a night warden, you need to be ready to respond quickly in an emergency (fire, intrusion, medical issue, conflict between guests). Know the alert procedures and emergency numbers inside out, and make sure safety equipment (fire extinguishers, alarms, emergency lighting) is accessible and in working order. Stay calm and professional during incidents to reassure holidaymakers and manage the situation effectively until backup arrives if needed.

Communication and Handover

Communication is essential to being an effective campsite warden. Liaise with the day team to pass on important information from the night (incidents, anything unusual, guest requests) through written or verbal reports. Get in touch with management if a situation needs a quick decision, and stay reachable for holidaymakers if they need help during the night.
